Some people share the myth that yoga is a religion.
Yoga is widely considered a spiritual practice, philosophy, or system of physical and mental exercises, rather than an organized religion. While it's rooted in ancient Indian traditions (particularly Hinduism and Buddhism) it does not require belief in a specific deity, adherence to a dogma, or adoption of a new faith.
SPIRITUALITY VS. RELIGION
Yoga is a spiritual tool: While yoga is not a religion, it is commonly deemed a spiritual practice that helps with mental and physical health.
The differentiator is the individual intention...
The distinction lies in the intention of the practitioner. It can be used a purely physical workout or as a meditative spiritual practice aimed at self-realization.
Many practitioners prefer to view yoga as a "way of life" or philosophy. I view it that way...promoting a harmonious existence rather than a dogmatic religious system.
